Eleanor Lang

Biodiversity Field Officer for the Conservation and Landscape Ecology Group, Fenner School of Environment and Society, The Australian National University

Eleanor comes from a broadacre wool and cropping farm in southwest Victoria. Graduating in 2016 from Melbourne University’s Master of Environment with first class honours, she focused on climate change adaptation in agriculture and agricultural communities. This included field work with a Vietnamese NGO assisting farmers to adapt to climate change through developing closed-loop farming systems. Eleanor worked in the sustainability team at Austin Health before joining the team as a Cowra-based Biodiversity Field Officer, where she assists the Grazing Studies as well as the wider Sustainable Farms projects. Witnessing the benefits from Landcare and agroforestry plantings to wildlife and productivity on her farm, she is passionate about the significant role agriculture can have in conservation and land restoration, in harmony with productive farming. Outside of work, Eleanor is involved with the youth-focused Intrepid Landcare movement, creates wildlife-focused art, and has a particular passion for freshwater turtle conservation on farms.
